Anticyclonic gloom continues

The anticyclone is still centred over the Bay of Biscay or thereabouts and continued to feed a moist and warm air stream over the UK again on Saturday and continues on Sunday. As a result the thermometer rose to 11.9C on Saturday being 3.8C above my 40-year average. The thermometer fell very little overnight with a low of 10.1C at 01.43 early Sunday, a minimal drop of just 1.8C and a significant 8.4C above my 40-year average.

There were several occasions in the afternoon when light drizzle fell amounting to 0.2mm.

The high pressure system is still in place so Sunday will be similar to Saturday, dull and gloomy with a brisk westerly breeze and mild again. The forecast pressure map shows the isobars getting closer later this morning, as a result the wind strength will increase significantly. The thermometer at 08.00 read 10.8C.

The soil temperature at a depth of 5cm has continued to rise thanks to the mild air streaming off the Atlantic with a reading of 10.0C at 08.00. The barometric pressure has fallen little in the past twenty-four hours with a reading of 1026.1mb.
