Thursday brought us 4.3 hours of welcome, if weak sunshine at this time of year. However, the light northwesterly air steam meant a cool day with the thermometer not rising above 4.2C being 3.8C below average.
The thermometer dropped away late afternoon to reach a minimum of -2.2C during the early evening at 19.47. The thermometer then did an about turn and began to rise ahead of cloud from the next weather front as it drifted across the area. Rain triggered the automatic rain gauge at 01.30 on Friday producing 4.6mm of precipitation.
Friday dawned with thick, low cloud draping the Marlborough Downs and Savernake Forest producing very misty conditions. The temperature at -8.00 had recovered to 6.3C with the wind having backed into the west, but very light, almost calm conditions at times.
