  • Warming up by day and the warmest night this year!

Wednesday saw the thermlmter climb to 24.2C the warmest day in three weeks and 1.5C above the average. In the limped sunshine the UV level of 8.9 was rated as Very High and the highest this year.

It has been a very mild night due to the thick cloud cover that limited the loss of warmth into the atmosphere so a minimum of 15.2C was 3.3C above the average and the warmest night this year.

Thursday dawned grey with thick cloud cover and at 08.10 a very brief drizzle shower passed over. The wind has veered a few more degrees and now coming from the north.

  • Temperature easing upwards but still below average by day

The thermometer on Tuesday eased a little higher being the warmest day this month with a maximum of 21.4C but this was still 1.3C below the average.

It was another dry but mainly cloudy day with the UV classified as High.

The overnight minimum of 9.2C was 2.7C below average but several degrees warmer than the previous nights.

Wednesday arrived with total cloud cover and a very light breeze from the north-northwest.

The barometric pressure continues to build as the ridge from the large anticyclone mid-Atlantic eases towards the UK. The pressure at 08.00 was 1028.8mb, the highest for two months.

  • Another dry spell sets in!

Monday was dry with the UV level well into the Very High category again. The wind was light and from the west with the thermometer not rising above 20.5C being 2.2C below the 38-year average.

It has been another cool night with the thermometer falling away to 5.0C, which was the coolest night for almost a month and a significant 6.9C below the average.

Tuesday arrived with clear blue sky and strong sunshine after dawn that saw the thermometer shoot up to 17.1C by 08.00. The anticyclone in the Atlantic is edging closer with the pressure rising again with a reading of 1025.5mb at 08.00, the highest since 13th June.

  • Getting warmer but still below average on Sunday

Sunday saw the thermometer climb a little higher than on Saturday with peak of 20.9C but this was still 1.8C below the July average.

It was a dry day with the UV level rising to Very High.

The past night was the coolest for almost a month with a minimum of 5.6C being 5.3C below the average.

Monday brought a fine start to the day with much sunshine shortly after dawn that lifted the thermometer to 16.4C at 08.00, the warmest start to a day at that time for two weeks.

The barometric pressure is beginning to rise as the large anticyclone in Mid-Atlantic begins to influence our weather. As a result the short-term outlook is drier, warmer weather.

  • Useful rain but not enough for the gardeners!

There were two areas of rain on Saturday, the heaviest late afternoon, that produced 4.3mm of rainfall.

Both maximum and minimum were well below average with figures of 18.2C (-4.5C) and 7.2C (-4.7C).

Sunday started with limited brightness but predominantly cloudy after low cloud and mist lifted from the local hills.

The barometric pressure has begun to lift as an anticyclone in mi-Atlantic begins to build. The temperature at 08.00 was 11.9C, the coolest morning at that time for a week, and pressure of 1019.3mb.
