  • Even colder night!

The airstream from the northwest persisted all day on Thursday, a cool direction, as result the maximum of 21.2C was 1.7C below the average. The past night saw the thermometer drop to 6.1C, which was a significant 5.8C below the 39-year average and the coldest night since 28th May.

It was another dry day with the UV level just into the Very High category.

After a cold night, Friday brought welcome sunshine to start the day, if a little hazy through thin, high cloud. As a result the temperature had recovered to 12.8C by 08.00, the coolest start to a day at that time since the 3rd (12.1C). The barometric pressure has already started to drop as another depression approaches the UK.

  • Coldest night this month

Once again, thanks to the northwesterly breeze, a cool direction, both the maximum of 22.7C and the minimum of 7.1C were below average with -0.2C and -4.8C respectively. In fact, it was the coldest night since 5th June.

The day was dry with the UV level into the Very High category again.

There was welcome sunshine to greet the new day on Thursday that had lifted the temperature to 15.5C by 08.00. It should be a mainly dry day as we are currently under a minor ridge of high pressure with a reading of 1017.4mb at 08.00. The breeze continues from the northwest and light.

  • Some warmth returns – but only just

Tuesday was the warmest day since the 9th but even so the maximum of 22.9C was only average. There have only been four days with a maximum above average this month. By contrast, the past night was mild with a low of 13.8C, which was 1.9C abject the average.

Intermittent light showers of drizzle occurred during the past evening amounting to 0.5mm. That took the monthly rainfall to 72.7mm, which is 125% of the 39-year average.

Wednesday dawned dull but by 08.00 the occasional bright interval lightened the sky. The wind has veered into the northwest for today, not seen since the beginning if the month.

  • No rain on Monday – hoorah!

Yes, Monday was totally free of rain and when the sun appeared it was very strong that lifted the temperature to a peak of 21.6C. Both the maximum of 21.6C and the minimum of 10.6C were again below the 39-year average with -1.3C and -1.3C respectively. The wind was still brisk, gusting to 21mph and from a cooler direction being west for most of the day.

The unsettled weather continues on Tuesday with variable cloud to start the day and little sunshine at first, However, with the barometric pressure easing upwards it should be another dry day. The pressure at 08.00 was 1019.9mb, the highest this month.

  • Yet more rain on Sunday!

The radar on Sunday showed a succession of lines of showers progressing from east to west with short spells of sunshine between. The daily rainfall total was 5.2mm that took the monthly total 72.2mm, which is 124% of the 39-year average. Both the maximum of 19.7C and the minimum of 10.8C were below the long-term average with -3.2C and -1.1C respectively.

Monday early revealed a sky with minimal light, fluffy cloud and welcome sunshine that lifted the temperature to 14.9C by 08.00. The barometric pressure has recovered further, up 18mb on the lowest point from last Friday, 1016.8mb at 08.00. The higher pressure should indicate fewer showers than those that plagued our area over the weekend.
