Monday was the first totally dry day since 31st May although the brisk westerly breeze maintained the flow of cool air. The maximum of 17.8C was 2.9C below average, in fact every day this past week the high has been below the June average, whilst the minimum of 8.2C was 2.0C below average, which was the first below average minimum this month.
Tuesday began with sunshine after dawn whilst the back track of the radar showed a line of showers passing just to the north of our area, in an easterly direction, over Swindon. However, a very minor few drops were observed falling here just before 07.30, which were minimal and not measurable.
The forecast pressure charts indicate a very unsettled three days ahead with Wednesday and Thursday particularly cool and wet due to a succession of weather fronts crossing the UK, and very disturbed air from the forecast troughs of low pressure contained with the large air of low pressure.
There is growing confidence that the spell of unseasonably cool, damp weather will end as Friday approaches. The forecast track of the jet steam indicates it beginning to loop north of the UK allowing high pressure to develop and bring an improved day on Friday and with fine, sunny and warm weather over the weekend and into next week.
Written records of the existence of Abbotsbury Swannery go back to 1393, though it probably existed well before that and is believed to have been set up by Benedictine monks in the eleventh century.
Prolonged spell of above-average temperatures in the forecast

A return to more settled conditions from next weekend with the likelihood of temperatures reaching the high 20s is the latest forecast from the Met Office.
In the lead up to this spell of fine weather conditions will remain unsettled. A showery regime will dominate for most of this week. This will include some brighter interludes, but also plenty of showers, some of which will be heavy with a chance of hail and thunder in places.
Paul Gundersen is a Met Office Chief Forecaster. He said: “Temperatures across the UK will remain below average for most of this week and it’ll often feel rather chilly, but in the sunny spells between showers, the strength of the June sunshine will provide a short-term boost making conditions feel pleasant in sheltered areas.”
