After the fog had cleared and the sunshine broke through mid-morning on Tuesday the thermometer rose to 14.7C being 4.2C above the 38-year average and it felt quite springlike.
The increase in cloud overnight, from an approaching weather front, stopped the temperature from falling very low with a minimum of 6.5C at 03.05 on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning brought misty conditions after dawn with a very light breeze. The temperature had recovered to 7.9C at 08.00. By 08.00 the visibility had dropped to 500m as the rain band approaches and is within 30 miles.
