Wednesday 12th November
The past twenty-four hours have been exceptional in that the diurnal range of temperature, the difference between the maximum and minimum, was just 2.2C. The thermometer rose slowly during the morning to reach 13.6C just after midday and then hovered around that temperature all day due to the very thick cloud that produced so much rain. The maximum of 13.8C was logged at 16.57 being 3.5C above average. The thermometer hovered just over 13C all night dropping a fraction to 12.9C at 07.33, which was a significant 8.9C above the average minimum.
My Met Office copper rain gauge measured another 10.7mm of precipitation that took the monthly total to 64.3mm compared to my 41-year average of 91.8mm.
Wednesday was slow to arrive due to the hang back of thick cloud from the recent weather front that is now heading north, although fragmented cloud could arrive mid-morning with more rain, possibly light in nature.
From Thursday, maximum temperatures will slowly fall away, still around average over the weekend, rather than several degrees above as in this past week. The first indication of the distinct change in the weather pattern, will be the wind backing from southwest on Thursday evening to east-northeast as a deep depression closes in around the Bay of Biscay bringing much rain on Friday.
By Monday we will feel the cold as the maximum temperature will be below average, in single digits, with cold nights ahead.
