  • Heat begins to build

The thermometer on Tuesday steadily rose to a maximum of 23.6C, which was 3.4C above the 37-year average.

The first eight days of June have seen the equivalent loss of 27mm of rainfall through evaporation from plant life and the ground when rainfall is 0.8mm.

The thermometer dropped below the average overnight with a minimum of 7.1C (-3C) due to clear skies and calm conditions.

The twin high pressure centres off the Norwegian coast and Belgium coast are keeping the weather fronts from the Atlantic at bay and producing days with little wind, maximum movements of 13mph, from the south now southwest direction.

  • UV very high again

Monday brought us 7.7 hours of sunshine and warm as the thermometer rose to 21.2C being 1C above average. The UV level rose to 9.5, being at the top end of Very High and not recorded since 13th July.

The breeze was light and variable under the influence of the anticyclone with a maximum gust of just 13mph but mostly very light and predominantly from the south.

We were greeted on Tuesday with strong sunshine after dawn that saw the thermometer rise from it slowest overnight temperature of 8.3C to 17.5C at 08.00. The soil temperature at a depth of 5cm read 19.7C at 08.00.

  • A little rain

The thermometer again rose above average on Sunday (+2.5C) in limited sunshine of 5.3 hours and the UV level the highest this year with a reading of 9.3, being Very High again. Light drizzle occurred for much of the morning, but not measurable, with a little light rain that fell intermittently between 18.20 and 18.45 amounting to just 0.5mm. The rainfall this month totals 0.8mm whereas evaporation already has reached 20mm.

A mild night followed with the thermometer not sinking below 13.7 being 3.6C above average.

Monday started with total cloud cover and most signs of the previous light rain having evaporated. Due to the anticyclone winds have been very light for the past two days and variable but principally from the south west.

  • Another very warm day on Saturday

Saturday saw the thermometer rise well above average (+2.9C) with a mximm of 23.1C during the 10.6 hours of sunshine and Very High UV levels.

The past night has been a very mild with the thermometer not falling below 13.1C just before midnight, which was 3C above average. This was the warmest night since 23rd October.

Drizzle began to fall on Sunday morning just before 07.15 as a large area of low cloud dawdled over the area, easing away after 08.30. There was not sufficient precipitation to measure.

  • Warmth returns

During the 7.2 hours of sunshine on Friday the thermometer reached 20.2C, exactly average for June. It was another dry day with the UV of 7.7 in the Very High category.

Clear skies overnight saw the thermometer plunge to 4.7C at 03.16, which was 5.4C below the average.

Saturday brought a glorious start to the day with sunshine from the start that lifted the temperature to 16.2C at 08.00 as the anticyclone intensified with the highest barometric pressure since the end of April.
