Tuesday 24th February
Monday was only the third totally dry day this month when no measurable precipitation fell, although the air was moist, fed across the country on the continuing southwesterly breeze. It was again a very mild day that produced above average temperatures with a maximum of 12.8C at 12.07 (+4.5C) and a minimum of 10.3C at 07/29 early Tuesday (+6.3C). The weather front crossed our area around midday that saw the cloud thicken and hence the maximum just after noon. The temperature overnight varied little, hovering just above and below 11C since 19.00.
The sky on Tuesday after dawn revealed a much lighter and higher cloud cover with the prospect that the day should be dry and bright, even with some sunshine, as the high pressure has continued to build and with no weather fronts in sight. The barometric pressure at 08.00 read 1016.3mb.
The next few days will see the mild and moist air stream continue to push up from the Azores area, resulting in temperatures by day and night remaining well above average with no sign of frosts in the near future.
It feels like early Spring has arrived but severe cold weather can hit the country in March. However, we can continue to enjoy the spring flowers that are lately adding colour and pleasure after recent dull and gloomy days. Today will see the start of a series of images of daffodils, large and small, in groups and single, that have been opening recently.
