  • Day and night temperatures return to above average

    Sunday saw the thermometer rise to a peak of 24.C being 2.0C above he average and the warmest day since the 20th. The UV also rose higher again with a value of 8.3 returning to Very High, the highest since the 13th.

    It has been a mild night with a low of 16.0C being 4.1C above the average.

    Monday brought sunshine to start the day but just after 08.00 cloud began to build up so that by 08.20 the sun disappeared completely.

  • Very warm night

    The temperature rose again on Saturday with a peak of 23.6C being just above average. It was another dry day and the UV rated as High with a brisk south-westerly breeze gusting to 21mph.

    The thermometer only dropped to 16.9C overnight thanks to thick cloud cover and a light southerly breeze. This low was 5C above the 38-year average.

    Sunday began with thick cloud cover and mild, the thermometer having risen very lttle from its low to read 17.3C at 08.00

  • Cooling down!

    The maximum of 22.8C on Friday was the lowest since the 5th (21.4C) and exactly average for July. The overnight minimum of 11.4C was just below average (-0.5C).

    There two very brief, very light showers of rain at 17.35 and just after 20.00 amounting to 0.8mm. That brought the monthly rainfall total to just 13.1mm, which is only 22% of the 38-year average or 46.5mm below.

    Saturday brought bright sunken after dawn that lifted the temperature to 16.3C at 08.00.

    The equivalent loss of rainfall due to evaporation from ground sources and plant life has dropped in the last two days to about 2mm per day from 4mm and 5mm a week ago. The total loss of equivalent rainfall now stand at 77mm for July against the 13mm of rainfall – quite a deficit.

  • Heat slips away!

    Thursday brought anther cooler day with a peak of 23.4C being just 0.7C above the average with the breeze, gusting just 11mph, mainly from the Northeast.

    It was another dry after the showers on Wednesday, with the UV level rated as Very High again.

    It has been a very mild night as the thermometer only dropped to 15.9C being 4.0C above the 38-year average.

    Friday dawned with total cloud cover but thin so bright conditions. The wind is likely to veer a little to come from the southeast for most of the day.

  • Relief at last from the heatwave!

    What a contrast in the heat with a drop of over 12C between the maximum on Wednesday and Tuesday although the peak of 24.6C was still 1.9C above the average. The wind had veered a few degrees to come from the southwest, a cooler direction than of late.

    The notable event of Wednesday was the welcome rain after 17 consecutive dry days. The moderate showers began at 17.35 and lasted, with variable intensity, to 19.50. Watching the rainfall radar, once again the most intense rainfall edged around Marlborough but 8.0mm of rainfall was very welcome making it the wettest day since 5th June (8.7mm).

    The past night brought a minimum of 12.1C being just above the average.

    Thursday arrived with strong sunshine after dawn but just before 08.00 cloud edged in and then completely obliterated any sunshine just after 08.00. By that time the thermometer had recovered to 16.3C.
