  • A dry day on Tuesday!

Tuesday brought us a dry day with the thermometer climbing to 20.2C early afternoon but this was sadly 2.7C below the average. Clear skies overnight combined with the cooler airstream from the northwest meant a cold night for July with a minimum of 5.4C, which was a significant 6.5C below the average and was the coldest night since 17th May.

Welcome sunshine greeted the new day on Wednesday especially as it won’t last much after midday with another depression approaching with rain the afternoon. The temperature had recovered to 13.8C by 08.00.

  • Another cool day on Monday

Monday been with drill and light rain all morning that eventually gave to brightness and limited sunshine. The thermometer rose to a maximum of 16.6C , which was a significant 6.3C below the 39-year average. The past night was also cool with a minimum of 9.5C, also below average (-2.4C).

Tuesday began with sunshine but shortly after 07.30 the cloud began to build up obscuring the sun. The temperature had recovered to 13.7C at 08.00. Today should eb a drier and brighter day under a temporary ridge of high pressure.

  • Showers on Sunday rather than continuous rain was an improvement on Saturday!

The frequent showers continued on Sunday adding another 1.5mm to the monthly total now standing at 95.9mm, some 38mm above the average. The thermometer eventually rose to 22.6C which was marginally below the average although total cloud cover overnight meant a mild night with the thermometer not sinking below 14.3mm, which was 2.4C above average.

Monday was initially bright but advance cloud from the next weather front obscured the sun soon after 07.30 with rain beginning to fall shortly after 08.00. The wind direction has changed significantly from southwest over the weekend to northeast as the depression moves away.

  • Another downpour!

Rain or drizzle, was continuous for over 13 hours on Saturday that produced another 21.7mm of precipitation and took the monthly total to 94.4mm, which is 162% of the 39-year average. It was a cool, windy day with no sunshine that limited the temperature rise to 16.0C, which was 6.9C below the average. It was the second coolest day this month after the 4th (15.9C).

However, the thick cloud cover meant a mild night that saw the temperature not drop below 14.8C, which was 2.9C above the long-term average.

Sunday revealed a totally cloudy sky and the wind continuing from the southwest. The barometric pressure had dropped to 1002.8mb at 08.00 due to the closeness of the depression.

  • Unsettled weather continues

We have now had 18 days with a maximum below average and Friday was another with a peak of 19.3C (-3.6C). It was a dry day with the UV level peaking at High, down from Very High on the previous four days.
