Saturday 17th January
Friday could be summed as a day of sunshine and showers, some quite sharp in the evening. Fog rolled in around 08.15 that limited any sunshine and rise in temperature until it slowly began to lift around 09.15. The temperature rose slowly to a peak of 8.4C at 14.40, after a pause around midday, as a shower cloud passed over, producing a short period of rain. The high was 1.3C above average. The temperature remained very stable overnight, under the cloud cover, at around 6C, with a minimum of 5.9C at 03.40.
The new day on Saturday began very dull under thick cloud with a low cloud base. The barometric pressure has built a little so there is hope of a mainly dry day and a few bright intervals, perhaps from around midday. Two lines of showers having been moving north over recent hours, that are just to the west also east of our area and are likely to miss us.
The next few days will see us continue under the influence of a moist Atlantic airflow with several ares of low-pressure around the UK but a watch is being kept on a very large area of high pressure over Russia, that might play a part in our weather later next week.
I will continue a few colourful images from Madeira, to brighten what are going to be a few, mainly dull days, before it is snowdrop time.
