The clear sky and air from a cool northwesterly direction meant that the thermometer tumbled overnight to a low of 6.5C at 04.55, which is 5C below the August mean. Limited sunshine yesterday gave a maximum of 19.5C, just below the average for early August of 20.5C. The sun rose strongly at dawn, in a clear sky, with the temperature recovering to 13.1C at 08.00.
