  • First dry day in fifteen

    The last day without any trace of rain was 18th August, although some days in this period had very small quantities of rainfall.
    North-westerly winds are bringing the cooler air making daytime temperature up to 3C below the mean for September.

  • September starts drier but with cool nights

    The northerly airstream has brought drier weather in the form of occasional showers, 1.4mm and 0.1mm, for the first two days with sunshine. However, the nights have been chilly with lows of 6.7C and 7.0C this morning.

  • Miserable end to last few days of Summer

    Today is starting as depressing as yesterday with low cloud and frequent light showers of rain and drizzle. The rainfall total for yesterday was 2.6mm with a maximum temperature of just 16.6C, 4C below the mean for August, due to the cool northerly air flow. Today will be the thirteenth successive day with rainfall.

  • An almost dry day and much sunshine at last

    We have endured ten succesive days with rainfall, however, yesterday was almost dry except for a light shower in the afternoon producing just 0.2mm. There was much strong sunshine amounting to 7.25 hours, the fourth highest daily total in August.

  • Another cold night

    With clear skies overnight the thermometer dropped to a low of 6.8C. The below maximum temperatures over the last four days, combined with cool nights, has brought the soil temperature, at a depth of 5cm, to the lowest since 1st June at 11.5C.
