  • Heat returns although less sunny than on Wednesday

    Wednesday:

    Maximum temperature: 25.3C, which was 3C above average and up 1.5C on Tuesday
    Wind maximum gust: down to 13mph after the breezy day on Tuesday with 19mph
    UV: 7.4, still Very High but much lower than the peak on Tuesday
    Evaporation: 4.03mm of equivalent rainfall
    Minimum temperare: 9.8C, which was 2C below the average.

    Thursday has dawned with more sunshine that raised the temperature to 17.0C at 08.00

    Thursday update at 16.50: temperature peaked earlier today at 15.29 with a maximum of 25.8C, which was 3.5C above the average. UV again Very High.

  • Coolest morning this month after exceptional UV level on Tuesday

    Tuesday saw the effects of the cold front that had travelled across the country giving the coolest day since 23rd June with a maximum of 23.8C, still 1.5C above the average.

    The UV level was 9.3, the second highest this year and at the top end of the ‘Very High’ category.

    A very cool night followed when the thermometer fell away to 9.0C, the coolest night since 27th June and 1.7C below average, the first below average this month.

    Wednesday dawned with sunshine but by 06.30 cloud had arrived from the North Sea blotting out the sun, which meant the thermometer only recovered to 13.4C at 08.00. This was 6 to 7C below the warmest mornings this month.

    Wednesday update at 16.50: maximum temperature rises, again after the cooler day on Tuesday, peaking at 25.3C.

  • Summer continues with another hot day on Monday

    Monday:

    Maximum temperature: 29.6C, which was 7.3C above the average but down 0,5C on Sunday
    UV level: Very High at 8.0, slightly down on Sunday
    Sunshine: 10.22 hours being 5.6 hours less than on Sunday
    Wind gust: 18mph, a little brisker breeze now more from the NNE
    Evaporation: 5.0mm of equivalent rainfall
    Minimum temperature: 13.1C, which was 1.3C above the average also 1C up on Monday morning

    During the early evening on Monday the first effects of a cold front moving down from the north were detected with a breezier evening and cooler temperature.

    Tuesday arrived with a brisk breeze from NorNorEast that made it feel quite chilly until the sun got to work raising the thermometer to 17.2C at 08.00, when readings were taken.

    Tuesday update at 17.15: maximum temperature down 6C on Monday with peak of 23.8C at 16.11. The UV level soared to 9.3, which was at the top end of ‘Very High’ and only the second time that it has occurred this year.

  • Sunday saw 30.1C maximum at 16.53

    Maximum temperature: 30.1C, being almost 8C above average and up 1.2C on Saturday
    Minimum temperature: 12.1C, being 0.4C above average and up 1C on Saturday
    UV level: 8.2 being Very High.

    Temperature at 08.00 Monday: 19.6C

    Monday update at 16.45: maximum temperature of 29.6C at 16.35

  • No rain but losing 5mm of moisture each day

    Saturday again saw the thermometer soaring, then to a maximum of 28.9, being 6.6C above the 34-year average for July. Also rising again was the UV level to 8.5, being Very High and the highest since 22nd July.

    After the first week of a dry July the equivalent rainfall lost through evaporation from ground sources and plant life not totals 36mm.

    The anticyclone continues to build bringing not only hot weather but little wind. The maximum gust on each of the last four days has been 10, 13, 12, and 14mph but mostly around 3-5mph and falling-out entirely overnight.

    Lat night the thermometer fell to its lowest this month with a minimum of 11.1C at 05.24. This morning as the sun quickly got to work the thermometer had soared back up to 20.7C when readings were taken at 08.00, which makes it the warmest start to the day at that time since 9th July 2017, almost exactly a year to the day!

    Sunday update at 17.05: temperature maximum of 30.1C at 16.53. It was the hottest day since 21st June 2017.
