  • Another warm day on Friday

The thermometer rose to 18.7C on Friday making it the warmest day since 22nd September and a significant 4.1C above the 38-year average. A modest rain shower that started, hesitantly, at 16.25 brought 0.6mm of ria fall.

It has been a very cold night with a minimum of 4.4C being 2.8C below the average under clear skies.

Saturday arrived with good sunshine after dawn but rising later in Autumn did not do much for raising the temperature as by 08.00 the thermometer had only risen to 5.0C.

  • Warmest day for a fortnight on Thursday

During the many hours of sunshine on Thursday, especially during the morning, the thermometer rose to 17.9C mid-afternoon being 3.3C above the average. Interesting that the first six days of this month have seen a variation in the maxima of just 0.5C. The breeze continued from the southwest.

The past night was also well above average (+3.0C) with a minimum of 10.3C.

Friday arrived with some brightness although mainly a cloudy sky. The barometric pressure has started two wain as a depression to the north gets closer. The reading at 08.00 was 1021.2mb, a drop of 7mb since this time yesterday.

  • Warm by day but very cool by night

The thermometer on Wednesday again rose well above the 38-year average (+2.8C) with a maximum of 17.4C. The last five days have brought very similar maxima, within 0.4C. It was not a dry day as 2.0mm of rainfall was recorded.

The clearing skies meant another very cool night with the minimum of 5.7C set at 07.04 on Thursday being 1.6C below the average.

Thursday began with weak sunshine but soon after 07.30 it gained in strength due to the ridge of high pressure currently over the UK with a barometric pressure reading of 1028.4mb at 08.00 making it the highest pressure since 8th August, so a fine, dry day in prospect. The wind is forecast to continue from the southwest quadrant.

  • Exceedingly mild by day and night

Tuesday was another cloudy but exceedingly mild day. The maximum of 17.8C was exactly the same as on Saturday and Monday being 3.2C above the average. The thermometer did not drop below 15.3C last night, which was 8.0C above the 38-year average.

Tuesday was also mainly dry although in my record I noted that a trace of precipitation was observed. On three occasions very brief, light drizzle showers passed over the area but never enough to dampen the pavement or measurable. The wind was quite brisk, gusting to 25mph on one occasion, and from the southwest.

Wednesday dawned very dull and slowly under a cover of thick cloud with the wind backing a little into the south and already quite gusty.

  • Very mild by day and night

Both the maximum of 17.8C by day and the minimum of 13.1C overnight were well above the 38-year average with +3.2C and +5.9C respectively. Although there was little sunshine the light southerly breeze brought the warm air. It was a dry day with the peak UV level of 2.8 being rated as Low, the lowest level since 12th April.

Tuesday dawned dull and overcast with the barometric pressure having fallen away as a depression to the northwest begins to affect our weather.
