  • Drizzle clearing to sunshine on Friday

    The drizzle late Friday morning had by mid-afternoon cleared and we had late afternoon sunshine that lifted the thermometer to 14.4C, just about average for October.

    The thermometer did not drop below 9.6C overnight being a mild night and 2.3C above the average.

    Saturday arrived with sunshine shorty after dawn that gave a lift to the new morning

  • Very calm on Tuesday

    Tuesday was remarkable for the lack of wind. The air flow came from the southeast, a direction not seen for a month.There were many hours of calm with the maximum movement of air logged at just 7mph.

    The thermometer rose to 15.9C, just 1.3C above the 38-year average whilst it has been another very cool night. The temperature fell away, initially, under clear skies to reach a minimum of 1.0C at 01.05 on Wednesday but encroaching cloud saw the temperature begin to rise again to reach 6.3C at 08.00.

    Wednesday arrived with total cloud cover but still very calm conditions.

  • Coldest day and night this month with air frost

    The thermometer only reached 15.1C on Monday due to a brisk northerly breeze. This high was still 0.5C above the average.

    The temperatures dropped rapidly overnight due to the colder air stream from the north and totally clear skies. The minimum of -0.3C was logged at 06.04 on Tuesday producing a ground first and the first air frost of the season.

    The sun shone brightly after dawn with the barometric pressure having recovered that should produce a fine, dry day.

  • Overnight rain after another warm day

    Sunday brought yet another above average day for warmth as the thermometer rose to 17.4C after a cold start, this was 2.8C above the average.

    Rain began to fall just after midnight when a cold weather front crossed the area and as it traversed eastwards the wind veered from the south into the north, there was also a drop of 2C in the air temperature. The wind gusted to 24mph in the rain squalls.

    Monday dawned dull with total cloud cover from the hang back of cloud from the weather front and the wind quite brisk from the north.

  • Coldest day and night this month

    The thermometer only rose to 17.0C on Saturday making it the coldest day this month but was still 2.4C above the average. In fact every dawn this month brought an above average maximum.

    The thermometer plummeted overnight dropping to 1.5C at 04.10 on Sunday that produced a ground frost, was he coldest night since 17th September also a significant 5.7C below the average. In fact it has been the fourth consecutive below average minimum.

    Sunday arrived clear and bright with sunshine shortly after dawn. The ridge of high pressure that has brought us the fine weather has started to decline with a reading of 1019.9mb at 0800, then lowest pressure for four days.
