The thermometer dropped to -2.0C overnight but another day dawned with sunshine. There have been almost 24 hours of sunshine over the last four days due to the approaching high pressure system. The barometric pressure at 0800 was 1040mb, the highest reading since 8th February.

Recurring ground frosts but glorious sunshine
The air temperature over the last three nights did not drop sufficiently to give an air frost but cold enough for a ground frost with a low of 0.5C last night. Maximum temperatures this month have all been below the long-term average, the last two days being 3C below.
Yesterday morning there was a brief shower of snow pellets lasting just a few minutes. -
Cold but sunny start to March
The first two days of March brought windy days that, combined with low morning temperatures, produced a wind chill that was equivalent to 2C. The maximum wind gust on monday was 34mph. The sunshine totals for Sunday and Monday were 4.0 and 6.7 hours respectively.

Another air frost overnight after wet morning.
The rainfall of 3.9mm yesterday brought the total for the month to 52.7mm, which is 80% of the long-term average.
With two days left in February the mean temperature is approximately 1C below the 31-year average and more than 2C colder than February 2014.
