With strong winds gusting to 20mph from a north-easterly direction, yesterday felt more like a winter’s day. The maximum reached was 6.4C, which is 4C below the average for March and combined with the wind strength it gave a wind chill factor of 2C in the morning. The continuous thick cloud cover produced another day without sunshine.

Yesterday brought 5.5 hours of sunshine and the eleventh day without rain this month. However, the maximum temperature was equal to the average at 10.4C with total rainfall this month standing at just 6.7mm when the average is 57.5mm.

With the wind coming from an easterly direction monday the 16th was a miserable day. There were frequent showers of light rain, no sunshine and a maximum temperature of 6.5C, which is an average January day maximum.

The last twenty-four hours have been unpleasant with thick cloud producing drizzle yesterday and rain this morning. With no sun and a strong north-easterly wind the temperatures yesterday were depressed with a maximum of only 7.2C, which is 3.2C below the long-term average.

The wind, which veered into a north-easterly direction on Friday, has brought much cloud cover, depressed maximum tempertures and a wind chill. Yesterday the peak temperature was 8.2C with wind gusts to 22mph. There was a little sunshine in the morning, amounting to 1.8 hours (during the previous two days none was recorded) but the moist air resulting from air travelling across the North Sea has brought thicker cloud and a little drizzle overnight.
