  • Dry start to August

The last three days have brought just 0.1mm of rainfall and two days of above average temperatures with a maximum of 24.2C on the 2nd.

  • Second coldest July night since 1984

Last night the thermometer plummeted under a clear sky to a low of 2.9C at 0541. This was the second lowest minimum I have recorded after the record set on 3rd July 1984 (2.1C). This cold night followed a slightly warmer day maximum of 18.9C, still below average, that brought 8.35 hours of strong sunshine.

  • Over a week with below average temperatures

Yesterday was the eight day with a below average maximum for July peaking at 17.3C, which is 5C below the thirty-year average of 22.5C. There was a little rain from a couple of short showers amounting to 0.4mm, which brings the total for July to 90.8mm (151%).

  • A dry day with some sunshine but still cool

No measurable rainfall fell yesterday and we enjoyed 2.5 hours of strong sunshine. However, temperatures were still depressed with a maximum of 17.8C, about 5C below the average.
Overnight the thermometer dropped steadily to register a low of 8.2C around 6.00am, which is almost 6C below the average July minimum.

  • Yet more rain!

Another wet and overcast day yesterday brought an additional 10.5mm of rainfall, which brings the total for July to 89mm, this is 148% of the long-term average. This dismal weather was brought by a depression with the lowest atmospheric pressure for two months at 996.5mb.
