Welcome blue sky and 5.8 hours of sunshine yesterday contrasted with previous cloudy, windy and wet days. There was little wind, maximum gust of just 11mph, with the thermometer reaching a high of 7.9C. The hard air frost from the previous night meant it took until almost 10.00 for the thermometer to rise above zero. Overnight the temperature dropped to 1.3C giving a ground frost.

Sharp air frost after dry day
Yesterday there was virtually no sunshine but bright intervals with a maximum of 7.2C. The sky cleared towards dusk and the thermometer dropped throughout the night to a minimum of -3.9C at 08.00, the coldest night for three weeks.

Cooler and drier day
The winds having veered into a westerly direction brought a cooler day yesterday with a maximum of 6.2C, below average for February (7.1C), and an almost dry day with just a light shower amounting to 0.2mm. There was a welcome 2.6 hours of strong sunshine.

More rain, more gales
Yesterday was almost a repeat of the weather we experienced on saturday. There many hours of strong winds which peaked at 45mph (saturday peak was 46mph) just before 4.30pm and the almost continuous rainfall amounted to 7.8mm bringing the monthly total to 43.4mm (average is 65.3mm). The maximum temperature was 8.2C, just above the average for February but dipped overnight to a minimum of 2.7C at dawn.

Two hours of sunshine then back to wind and rain
Yesterday brought welcome relief after the storm on saturday, with two hours of strong sunshine. During the evening rain returned with a total for the twenty-four period of 7.3mm and a peak gust to 36mph.
This morning at 08.00 I recorded the lowest barometric pressure, of 982.4mb, since January 2015.
