  • Fog, frost and sun greet the dawn

Yesterday brought 5.05 hours of strong sunshine and a maximum of 15.3C, 1C above the average for April. Overnight the temperature steadily fell away and dropped below freezing for an hour before dawn when the fog banks formed. These small banks of fog have been moving around and gradually thinning as the sun grows in strength this morning.

  • Dismal day yesterday but weak sunshine this morning

This morning it was a relief to see the weak sunshine trying to break through the thin high cloud after the thick cloud and hours of light rain yesterday. There was a little brightness in late afternoon as the cloud thinned. The rainfall total for the past twenty-four hours was 4.3mm with a maximum temperature of 11.2C and very still conditions, the highest wind gust was 7mph. At dawn there was mist in the valleys that is now slowly evaporating.

  • Wettest twenty-four hours this month

Sunday brought 3.45 hours of strong sunshine but the easterly breeze kept the maximum temperature down to 11.6C, almost 3C below the April average. Heavy rain was recorded an hour before and after midnight, which combined with light rain early morning brought the daily total to 9.6mm, the wettest day this month. The thick cloud cover, light rain and still wind conditions meant a mild start to the day with a temperature of 7.7C at 08.00.

  • Snow flurries by day and frost by night

Yesterday brought snow flurries at 16.22 and as the clouds cleared overnight the thermometer dropped to -0.6 just after 04.00. At dawn the sun rose in an almost clear sky and at 08.00 the temperature had risen to 3.3C. There was 2.1mm of precipitation over the last twenty-four hours and 4.3 hours of strong sunshine.
