  • Warmth at last

    Yesterday the southerly air boosted the temperature to a maximum of 16.1C (average for early May) just after noon with broken sunshine in the morning. The advancing cold front brought thick cloud in the afternoon with modest rain totalling 2.3mm.
    As the cold front passed over around 17.00, the wind veered into a westerly direction and the sun came out again taking the total hours of strong sunshine yesterday to 2.28 hours.
    This morning dawned with strong sunshine and a little high cloud with a temperature of 7.5C at 08.00.

  • Another sharp frost after warmest day for a week

    The last day of April brought 6.0 hours of strong sunshine but with clearing skies overnight another air frost occurred for a couple of hours before dawn with a minimum of -0.7C.
    The humidity at 08.00 today was very low at 71% with bright sunshine that soon was dimmed with high level cloud.

  • Hail, frost, strong sunshine and gusty winds all in one day

    Yesterday we enjoyed 8.29 hours of strong sunshine, the third highest total for this month. Just before midday there was a short but heavy shower of rain, which contained small hail, with winds briefly gusting to 27mph.
    This morning dawned with unbroken sunshine due to the clear skies, which produced a slight air frost with a minimum of -0.3C that disappeared quickly under the strength of the sun giving an air temperature of 6.5C at 08.00 in almost still air conditions.

  • No overnight air frost but still cold by day

    Yesterday was the seventh successive below average maximum with a high of 10.9C (mean is 14.3C). This was tempered by strong winds gusting to 23mph. The cloud cover overnight meant that there was no air frost but it was chilly with a minimum of 2.6C. Today dawned with weak sunshine that at 08.00 had broken through thin cloud to produce strong sunshine. The rainfall for the past twenty-four hours totalled 2.7mm that mainly fell last evening.
