  • Northerly winds depress temperatures

The strong northerly winds yesterday, gusting to 25mph, kept the temperature down to a maximum of 17.1C. There were 4.02 hours of strong sunshine that reduced late afternoon as the cold front arrived from the north. Cloud cover overnight and a continuing slight breeze, meant that we just avoided a ground frost with a minimum of 6.2C. This morning the sun is beginning to break through the cloud cover with a temperature of 7.4C at 08.00

  • Sunshine returns but so does strong north-easterly today

Yesterday brought 2.65 hours of strong sunshine, but 11.8 hours of global sunshine, that pushed the thermometer to a maximum of 21.8C in late afternoon. This morning the north-easterly wind has been increasing with gusts to 23mph and the ambient temperature of 10.7C at 08.00 has a wind chill factor that makes it feel like 8C. The UV level returned to high yesterday.

  • A brief ray of sunshine yesterday after the persistent rain

Yesterday the cloud eventually lifted and cleared with brief brightness and a ray of strong sunshine (0.09hours) late afternoon. Rainfall total for May, after 4.1mm yesterday now totals 31.6mm (average 60.5mm). This morning is cloudy with a stiff breeze and cool at 11.8C (minimum overnight) as the wind has briefly backed into a northerly direction.

  • Wettest 24 hours for nearly two months

Yesterday was devoid of any strong sunshine due to continuous cloud cover. There were intervals of heavy showers, day and night, interspersed with very light rain. The total precipitation was 16.6mm. The light easterly breezes, maximum gust was 14mph, depressed temperature by day with a maximum of 16.7C, almost 10C below the maximum two days previous. It was a mild night due to the cloud cover with a minimum of 13.6C, which is little different from the previous day’s maximum.

  • Rain and cloud replaces sunshine

After a bright start and weak sunshine yesterday morning the rain showers in the afternoon and more continuous rain overnight indicates a change in the weather pattern. The rainfall total for the past twenty-four hours was 8mm, the wettest day this month. It was a very humid night with a temperature of 14.4C at 08.00 and 98% humidity.
