Dawn arrived with sun from the start that at 0800 had produced almost 2.0 hours of strong sunshine and a temperature of 11.8C with hardly a breath of air.

More sunshine
Yesterday the global sunshine totalled 10.3 hours whereas direct strong sunshine only reached 0.3 hours. This boosted the temperature to a maximum of 16.3C, average for May, the wind having veered from the south to the north-west. A heavy shower late afternoon brought 1.4mm of rain. This morning broke with glorious sunshine that raised the temperature, after a cold night with a minimum of 5.8C, to 11.6C at 08.00

Coolest day this month
The continuous cloud cover and almost continuous rainfall meant that the maximum temperature yesterday was only 14.4C, the coolest day this month. It was only the third day this month with no strong sunshine. The rainfall for the past twenty-four hours was 7.7mm bringing the total for May to 51.6mm (85%).

‘Very High’ UV level followed by light showers
Yesterday was a bright day with 11.3 hours of global sunshine (0.13 hours strong sunshine) that boosted the temperature to a maximum of 18.1C, which is almost 2C above the average for May. The UV level reached ‘Very High’ just after noon. During the evening the approaching weather front brought increasing cloud, light rain late evening and intermittent light showers overnight amounting to 1.9C.

Yesterday brought 3.54 hours of strong sunshine in the morning, with high UV levels, but the approaching weather front meant a cloudy afternoon with a couple of showers amounting to 0.4mm late afternoon and early this morning. A warm night with a minimum of 11.2C after a maximum of 17.8C yesterday. This morning the sky is dominated by heavy cloud with the occasional glimpse of the sun.
