It was interesting to note that on friday, when we had blue skies and uninterrupted strong sunshine for almost 8 hours, that the UV level and high solar were lower than yesterday when we had broken cloud and only 4.7 hours of strong sunshine. I wonder what the explanation is?
The maximum yesterday again climbed a little higher at 23.4C (3C above the mean) but the thermometer dropped continuously overnight to a cool 8.7C minimum.

UV returns to ‘Very High’ level
With almost five hours of strong sunshine yesterday it was not surprising that the maximum of 21.6C was above average (+1c) for August with the UV level back into the very high category. It was a mild night with a minimum of 13.3C at 02.01 as the cloud cover thickened.

Warm front follows cold front
The warm front has succeeded the cold front with the wind backing and now coming from a southwesterly direction. This brings sightly warmer air with greater moisture, humidity at 08.00 was 90% compared to 78% on the previous morning. Late last night there was a slight shower amounting to 0.4mm. The cloud cover meant a warmer night than the previous two with a minimum of 12.8mm.

Evaporation now exceeds rainfall this month
Although we had a very wet day on the 1st with 20.5mm of rainfall the evaporation from plant life and the ground now totals 24mm. The drier air from the northwesterly air flow gave another low reading for humidity this morning at 78%. The past night was again cool with a minimum of 8.5C after a very sunny day yesterday with over 7 hours of strong sunshine.
