Hottest day for a month and a little rain overnight
With the culmination of several dry days and building heat the thermometer reached 26.6C yesterday with 8.44 hours of strong sunshine, the hottest day for a month. By late afternoon thin cloud started to arrive from the west heralding a change in the weather. The barometric pressure had been falling over the last three days as the anticyclone eased to the east.
Just after 4am this morning a light shower, totalling 0.6mm, was recorded with the cloud cover holding in the warmth overnight giving a minimum of 15.2C, a very warm night. This resulted in a misty start to the day with the sun trying to break through just after 8am. -

Heat builds as wind direction changes
Late on sunday the wind veered from a regular westerly direction to a northerly direction which continued yesterday to a north-easterly as the high pressure moved a little eastwards. There was glorious strong sunshine from dawn in clear blue skies totalling 14.37 hours, the third highest total this year.
This morning the sun is a little hazier with a minimum of 10.1C, less cool than the previous two days. There was valley fog at dawn that quickly dispersed as the sun rose and a light easterly breeze. -
A very cool night
The high pressure is providing much sunshine but clear skies at night mean a considerable drop in temperature, early this morning to 6.8C when the mean is 11.4C. The dry spell continues with just 23.2mm of precipitation this month when the mean is 66.2mm. With the anticyclone almost overhead it means a slack pressure gradient that gave a maximum gust of 11 mph yesterday and still conditions overnight.
