  • Southerly winds maintain temperature

    Thursday was a much better day that produced 5.64 hours of strong sunshine and boosted the temperature to a maximum of 20.6C, still well above average. It was quite breezy with the strongest gusts of wind for a week reaching 21mph.

    It was followed by another very mild night with the thermometer not dropping below 14.7C.

  • Sushine returns late afternoon

    After another day with heavy cloud yesterday  the sun did break through late afternoon (2.08 Hours) to boost the temperature to 24.5C, the highest September temperature since 2013. The record was set on 5th September 2004 with a high of 27.4C.

    This morning the humidity is the lowest this month at at the time of reading with 93% as a weak weather front passes through changing the air mass.

  • Warmest September day since 2013

    The warm, moist southerly air stream and a little strong sunshine yesterday (0.46 hours) pushed the thermometer to a maximum of 24.1C. This is 6C above the 32-year average and the warmest day since 5th September 2013. Earlier in the month the humidity during the day time was dropping to 50 or 60% but the last couple of days it has been in the mid eighties. Again, the cloud overnight and warm air meant that it was another mild night with a minimum of  15.9C, which is 7C above the longterm average.

  • Maximum equals minimum equals soil temperature

    The warm, moist air brought thick, low cloud yesterday, which only thinned late afternoon with no sunshine. The maximum yesterday was 21.9C, 3C above the mean for  September. The temperature at 08.00 this morning was 18.7C, which equals the mean maximum daily temperature for September with the soil temperature at a  depth of 5cm also 18.7C at 08.00. A brief shower early morning of 0.3mm brings the total for September to 17.9mm.

  • No sun, more rain

    Yesterday was the first day for a month that no strong sunshine was recorded. Overnight, just after 01.30, drizzle fell with heavier showers just before 03.00, amounting to 4.4mm. The overnight minimum, at 13.9C, was exactly the same as the previous morning and 5C above the long-term mean. The wind strength was far lower yesterday, peak of 19mph, than the previous day which had a maximum gust of 31mph.
