At 05.34 this morning the thermometer dropped to its lowest reading since 5th May at 1.9C giving a grass frost. This followed a glorious day yesterday with 8.71 hours of strong sunshine. The many hours of rainfall on Saturday totalled 12.0mm.

Warm southwesterly winds boost temperature
With the wind veering into the southwest yesterday we enjoyed 3.27 hours of strong sunshine and the UV level was the highest for two weeks. As a consequence the thermometer rose to a maximum of 20.8C, which is 2C above the average.
A cold front this morning has brought bands of rain and drizzle sweeping from the west. Rainfall to 08.00 was 1.0mm.

Sunless, damp and gloomy day
Yesterday was a gloomy day of low cloud with occasional bands of drizzle crossing the area. The precipitation total was minimal with 0.2mm but the maximum temperature returned to average after the previous cool day. It was the fifth day this month with no strong sunshine.
Today the barometer rose to its highest this month with a maximum of 1025.0mb just after midnight, thin cloud and a watery sun.

Coolest day for three months
With little sunshine and occasional showers or drizzle yesterday was the coolest day since 3rd June with a maximum of 15.8C, which is 3C below the average for September. The overcast conditions, with low cloud, greeted the dawn with very moist air after the rainfall of 2.7mm yesterday.
It was a mild night when the thermometer did not drop below 11.6C and recovered to 14.1C at 08.00.

Another chilly night after more sunshine yesterday
The 5.5 hours of strong sunshine yesterday pushed the thermometer to a maximum of 17.2C, a little below the average but the temperature dropped away overnight to a chilly minimum 8.6C at 03.22. A very brief shower of just 0.1mm was recorded around dawn this morning from the predominantly cloudy sky, the temperature having recovered to 9.6C at 08.00.
