  • Temperatures continue to fall

The wind has veered into the north and although light in strength, maximum of 13mph yesterday, meant both maximum and minimum temperatures were lower then the previous day at 12.3C and 4.3C, 2C and 3C below the average respectively. Another dry day, fifteen so far this month, and only 25.5mm of rainfall (28.7%). Fog is evident this morning and varies between 200m and 1100m visibility.

  • Day and night temperatures now depressed

With a persistent northwesterly breeze it is not surprising that temperatures were below average yesterday and overnight. The maximum yesterday was 12.9C, about 2C below average, but late afternoon the thermometer began to drop and reached a minimum of 4.4c at 01.56, but recovered a couple of degrees as cloud cover arrived. There was minimal sunshine yesterday, 0.41 hours, and no precipitation.

  • Chilly winds return

The northwesterly winds brought down the maximum temperature again yesterday to a 12.8C, which is 2C below the average. However, it was another dry day with 1.2 hours of strong sunshine that total 82 hours so far this month. The average rainfall for October is 88.1mm but the rainfall to date is just 25.5mm.

  • High pressure brings drier easterly breeze

The anticyclone, with a peak of 1029.9mb,  just to the east of us has meant that the wind has veered into the east bringing a drier, cooler air with more cloud. Yesterday the sunshine total was much lower, 4.36 hours, due to transient cloud although the maximum temperature of 17.5C was 3C above the average for October. The night just passed was less cool than previously with a minimum of 9.9C.

  • Sunniest day since late August

It was a glorious day yesterday with wall to wall blue sky and 10.06 hours of strong sunshine, the sunniest day since 30th August. The thermometer rose to a maximum of 17.C, which is 2C above the mean for October. The past night was far less cold with a temperature of 9.7C at 08.00

This morning dawned with fog, the visibility down to 200m.
