  • The sun returns! Almost a dry day.

The sun returned yesterday with 1.93 hours of strong sunshine, raising the thermometer to a peak of 15.9C, which was 1.3C above the average for October.

There was a very brief shower amounting to 0.1mm mid afternoon.

As the skies cleared overnight the thermometer fell for over 18 hours, with a brief hiccup jut after 3am, to a low of 6.3C, which was 1C below the 33-year average for October.

However, the barometric pressure has been rising for almost two days providing a ridge of high pressure so that we start the day with glorious sunshine and a reading of 1022mb.

  • Last southerly winds boost temperatures

Sadly, the 1st of October brought no sunshine. However, the southerly winds for the majority of the day, gusting to 21 mph, meant an above average maximum of 16.7C (+2C) and a mild night with the thermometer not dropping below 12.5C (+4.7C) at 08.00

There a couple of short showers mid-morning producing 0.4mm of rainfall.

This morning dawned with broken, weak sunshine before cloud built up before 9am.

Early evening yesterday the low pressure to the north meant that the wind slowly veered into the west.

  • Dry day but very wet & windy night

Saturday was predominantly dry, a little light drizzle mid-morning, with 1.1 hours of strong sunshine encouraging the thermometer to a high of 16.1mm, which was 2.6C below the average.

The next weather front arrived in the evening producing 7.8mm of rainfall, the second wettest day this month, taking the total for September to 75.0mm, that is 13.5mm above the 33-year average.

The thick cloud associated with this weather front meant another mild night as the thermometer minimum of 13.3C was reached just before 9pm but as the cloud thickened the thermometer started to rise slowly to 14.2C at 08.00.

It was the windiest night for over two weeks with a maximum gust of 23mph just after midnight.

  • Wet start, dry day, cool night

Having caught the tail end of the latest weather front on friday morning, producing 0.9mm of light rain, the sky slowly cleared to bring bright intervals and 16 minutes of strong sunshine.

The earlier thick cloud and little sunshine meant a cooler day with a maximum of 16.5C, being 2C down on thursday and some 2.2C below average.

A cool night followed with a minimum 9.2C, which was almost the average for September and 3C down on the previous mild night.

This morning there is a little brightness through the thin cloud and almost still conditions.

  • Dry by day – wet by night

Thursday gave us another mild autumnal day with the maximum of 18.4C, just under average, exactly the same as Wednesday.

It was a dry day with much more sunshine, 6 hours in total.

Initially the thermometer dropped away as the evening progressed but the cloud cover ahead of the next weather front started to raise the temperature just after 9pm so that by 03.15 this morning, the thermometer had risen 3.5C. The minimum overnight was 12.5C, which was 3.2C above average.

Rain began to fall just after midnight and continued until 03.15, producing 1.5mm. This brings the September total to 66.3mm being 5mm above average.
