  • Anticyclone intensifies centred over UK

    The temperature lifted a little on Wednesday compared to previous days with a maximum of 13.4C at 13.49 in variable sunshine under the high pressure system centred over the UK with a peak pressure of 1036.8mb at 08.00 today, Thursday. The effect of this anticyclone was also to bring little wind with a peak gust of just 14mph but there were times when the wind fell out entirely.

    A chilly night was to follow with a minimum of 0.9C at 03.54, briefly giving a ground frost, but by 08.00 Thursday the thermometer had lifted to 6.6C under the influence of sunshine through broken cloud.

  • Highest UV level in six months

    Tuesday saw the thermometer rise well above average again with a peak temperature of 13.1C (+2.8C) and the UV level reading 4.3, which was at the top fo the ‘moderate’ level. The eight consecutive dry day.

    A cool night followed with a minimum of 1.2C at 02.25 but cloud drifted in during the early hours that blanketed out the sun at dawn and saw the temperature lift to 6.4C at 08.00.

  • First frost in March

    After another almost wall to wall sunshine day, when the thermometer reached a maximum of 12.2C (+1.9C), the temperature dropped away overnight under clear skies to reach a minimum of -2.1C at 05.46 giving a sharp frost, which was 4.2C below the average. This was the coldest night since 4th February.

    Tuesday arrived with thin, high cloud limiting the sunshine, the thermometer having recovered to 3.2C at 08.00.

  • Change of wind direction means clearer air

    Sunday saw the wind back from the Northeast initially into the North then n]Northwest, which meant a cleaner air. We enjoyed almost wall to wall sunshine, except for the occasional fleeting small fluffy cloud.

    Bot maximum and minimum were above average with 12.4C (+2.1C) and 5.2C (+3.1C) respectively.

    Monday saw the sun shine brightly as it rose above the horizon with the promise of another sunny day with high pressure beginning to build again.

  • A touch of Spring returns

    Saturday brought us 8.2 hours of sunshine and a rise in temperature to a maximum of 12.6C, being 2.3C above average, at 13.25. The UV level rose into the ‘Moderate’ category with a reading of 3.5, which was the highest since 3rd October.

    With much less cloud cover overnight the temperature fell away steadily to a minimum of 3.2C at 06.48 this morning, Sunday. The sun was evident as it rose above the horizon lifting the temperature to 6.9C at 08.00 in a mainly cloudless sky.
