Today the morning broke with sunshine after a chilly night when the thermometer dropped to 4.2C. This followed two mild nights and yesterday with no strong sunshine and a maximum of just 13.9C.

Wettest day since end of July
The rain started just after 3.00am yesterday and was almost continuous until just before midnight producing a total of 21.4mm. As a consequence of the thick cloud cover and warm southerly air the thermometer did not drop below 14.2C overnight.

First rain after nine dry days
The anticyclone has now departed and low pressure accompanied by weather fronts has brought a mild night, with a minimum of 12C and 2.8mm of rainfall. The temperature at 0800 was 14.7C, the warmest morning at this time of day since 23rd August.

Sunshine into double figures
The first two days of October continued under the anticyclone producing 10.2 and 9.8 hours of strong sunshine. This raised the maximum temperature to 2C above the long-term average for the month.
Overnight, as the thermometer dropped to 2.2C, fog formed and at dawn visibility was down to 100m. -
The sunshine continues
We have now had four consecutive days without rainfall and the last six days have produced an accumulated total of 43 hours of strong sunshine.The barometric pressure continues very high at 1035mb and the outlook for the next few days is similar.
