  • Mild southerly winds lift temperatures

    After the very cold night/early morning of the 25th, the change in wind direction to southerly has brought warmer air with a maximum of 14.8C yesterday, just average for late October. Sunday brought a better day with light winds and almost 4 hours of strong sunshine, the highest for a week.

  • Nine hours of precipitation and overnight ground frost

    Saturday was a dismal day with nine hours of rainfall totalling 7.1mm and no direct sunshine, the first time since 19th February. As the cold front cleared late afternoon yesterday, the thermometer started to drop, continuously overnight, until a low of 0.1C was reached at 05.38 giving a grass frost.

  • Southerly winds bring mild, damp weather

    The winds backed into a southerly direction yesterday, the first for a month. The result is damp, mild air with a temperature of 11.3C at 0800 and a light shower amounting to 0.3mm just before dawn.

  • Mild nights but no sunshine by day

    The persistent cloud cover has kept the night time minimum temperatures above the mean for the last two nights, 8.3C and previously 9.9C. The cloud cover has prevented sunshine by day and yesterday a below mean maximum of 13.3C. At 0800 today the humidity was 92%, the lowest for a month.

  • Rain after twelve dry days

    The barometric pressure dropped considerably yesterday as the high pressure system that had dictated our weather for well over a week weakened and a depression took hold. The cloud cover arrived during the evening and a minimum of 5.9C was noted just after 22.00, which was followed by continous rainfall just after 03.00. The total rainfall by 08.00 was 6.8mm and the thermometer had risen to 9.9C.
