Rainfall returned overnight with a total of 2.8mm. Due to the warm, humid air from a southerly direction the minimum was 12.2C overnight, that is 9C above the average, which had risen to 13.6C at 0800 this morning. It is interesting to see the increasing temperatures at 0800 for the last five days at 5.2, 8.4, 9.6, 10.6 and 13.4C. This cloudy, misty weather meant no sunshine for the last two days.

Very mild night after fog disperses
Yesterday was a misty day due to low cloud rather than fog with the temperature rising during the day and into the early evening. This resulted in a minimum of 10.6C, which is 6C. above the mean for November.

Fog yesterday but mist today
Yesterday the fog was quite dense at times with minimum visibility of 150m and persisted most of the day except for a lifting around 1.30pm for a brief time before returning mid-afternoon. Strong sunshine of 0.13 hours gave a brief respite from the gloom. The mild, moist air has meant both maxima and minima above average with 14.4C on sunday and 11.4C yesterday.

Strongest winds this month
Another band of rain is sweeping the area today after a wet morning on thursday, which brings the total to 64.2mm for October. We have had 19 dry days this month so although there have been very wet days the total is 24mm below the mean. The wind strength has been rising since midnight with the strongest gust this month of 26mph recorded at 0815.

Tuesday was mild, wet and windy
With the mild southerly air still affecting our weather it was not surprising that the maximum temperature yesterday was 16.1C, above average and the warmest day since 9th October. The afternoon and evening also brought several hours of rainfall amounting to 3.9mm, bringing the total for October to 54.1mm, which is 61% of the 31-year average.
