  • Coldest day after light snow

    Saturday was the coldest day since 12th February with a maximum of 4.4C. The low temperature with a minimum of 1.2C, combined with wind gusts to 31mph, meant a wind chill of -2.1C. However, the northerly winds brought much lower humidity and 5.4 hours of strong sunshine, the greatest number of hours since 20th October.

  • Strong winds continue as does the rain

    Yesterday winds continued strong with a maximum gust of 40mph. Most of the daylight hours were dry with strong sunshine of 1.8 hours, the second sunniest day this month. Heavy rain occurrred overnight giving a daily total of 6.3mm.

  • Winds not as strong as forecast

    The forecast gale force winds arrived during last evening, increasing in strength from after 1930 to a peak of 44mph, before abating before midnight. There have been several occasions when wind gusts over 50mph have been recorded at this site with the record set in both January and March 2007 with peak gusts of 57mph. Further rainfall amounted to 5.7mm.

  • Still no air frosts – not quite a record yet

    The very mild, wet and windy weather continues with no air frost yet and only two weeks from the start of meteorological ‘winter’. Yesterday we enjoyed 1.25 hours of strong sunshine but the wind (maximum gust 25mph)and rain returned late evening bringing a total of 7.3mm.

  • More rain, more wind, no sun

    Yesterday was another dismal day, overcast and damp in the morning followed by rain in the afternoon for several hours, amounting to 5.0mm. As in previous days there were blustery winds peaking at 26mph. All the cloud cover and mild air meant that the thermometer did not drop below 13.2C overnight when the mean for November is 3.5C.
