Touch of ground frost
After enjoying 2.4 hours of strong sunshine yesterday the thermometer dropped overnight to a low of 2.9C around dawn giving a temporary ground frost. The barometric pressure at 0800 was the highest for over two months at 1033mb producing clear skies this morning.

Extremely mild weather continues
With maxima 6C -7C above the mean for December and minimum temperatures in double figures the southerly winds continue to bring exceptionally mild weather. The maximum yesterday was 13.8C with a minimum of 10.3 but by 0800 this had risen to 11.4C. It was a dry day yesterday with 1.6 hours of strong sunshine but overnight rainfall amounted to 1.8mm.

Highest wind gust since February 2015
Yesterday brought consistently strong winds with a maximum gust of 45 mph just after 10 00. A light shower in the early hours amounted to 0.2mm. The continuously strong winds and minimal rainfall for the last twenty-four hours meant low humidity of 81% at 0800.

Thursday so cloudy no UV registered
The thick cloud all day on thursday meant that no UV light was registered, the first occasion since February. During the evening rain fell with a heavy burst at around 2200 amounting to the daily total of 5.8mm. This was followed by cloud clearing allowing the temperature to drop to 4.8C before beginning to rise just before daybreak.
