  • Glorious sunshine yesterday

    Yesterday was a day to remember during this month of cloud and rain as it brought blue skies, a little milky at times, and 5.56 hours of welcome strong sunshine with the UV level edging upwards (0.9), the highest for two months.
    The wind strength has been rising this morning, as the barometer falls, with gusts of 30mph just before 07.30.

  • No sun, more rain and ground frost

    Yesterday brought another of the dismal, overcast and wet days. Although there was a little brightness late afternoon it was not enough to register on the sunshine recorder. Rainfall for the last twenty-four hours amounted to 2.6mm, which was followed by a slight ground frost (minimum of 0.4C) after the skies had cleared overnight.

  • Second wettest day this month (just) and gale force winds

    Yesterday was notable for the seven hours of continuos rainfall with intermittent showers during the remaining twenty-four hour period totalling 15.7mm (10th was 15.8mm). This brings the total for January to 100.5mm, which is 109% of the long-term average for January. Also notable were the strong winds throughout the period with peak gusts of 41 mph between 2.30 and 3.00pm.

  • Warmest day and night for a month

    Yesterday was another mild day thanks to tropical air brought on southerly winds producing a maximum of 13.2C (mean 6.6C) and a minimum last night of 8.4C (mean 1.1C). No further rain fell although with much forecast tomorrow this will swell the current total for January, which currently stands at 84.8mm (92%).

  • Tropical air brings moisture and very mild weather

    The tropical air flow over the last two days has brought the warmest day of the month 922nd) with a maximum of 10.8C and the warmest night (24th) with a minimum of 5.7C. However, a further plume of warm air over the last few hours this morning produced a reading of 11.7C at 0800, which is 5C above the maximum long-term mean.
