  • Winter is still in evidence

    Yesterday was an exceptional day with 9.69 hours of strong sunshine, the sunniest day since 2nd October 2015. However, we have had to pay the price of clearing skies overnight with the continuing cool, northerly airstream as the thermometer dropped to -6.1C its lowest point at 0320 this morning. Subsequently, increasing amounts of cloud have obscured the sky with the temperature rising to -0.7C at 0800.

  • No sign of spring weather yet

    The north-westerly winds continue to bring depressed temperatures by day, 6.1C maximum yesterday, which is almost 4C below the mean for March. However, the winds were light and there was much bright, hazy sunshine before midday, although strong sunshine was limited to 0.2 hours. An air frost occurred again overnight with a minimum of -1.1C.

  • More snow showers

    The northerly winds brought brief wet snow showers during the morning but it did not settle, amounting to 0.3mm of precipitation. After a maximum of 6.8C, about 4C below the mean, the thermometer dropped overnight to -1.7C but started to rise again just after 0400 to reach 1.2C at 0800.

  • Definitely not spring like

    Yesterday was another day with cold westerly winds which brought a high of 6.9C, several degrees below the average for March and a couple of hail showers, small in diameter. Overnight the thermometer dropped to 0.3C after a couple of light showers.

  • Showers and grass frost after dry day

    Yesterday brought a dry, breezy and bright day with just 0.22 hours of strong sunshine. Another day with below average maximum temperature of 8.4C (average = 10.4C). The brief showers overnight brought 1.4mm of precipitation, which briefly froze on the ground as the as the air temperature dropped to 0.1C, but was already rising to 1.8C at 0800.
