The much more frequent cloud yesterday meant that there was only 1.08 hours of strong sunshine but the winds were light so felt like spring. Overnight there was rainfall between 02.00 and 05.00 amounting to 2.5mm bringing the total for April to 35.1mm (59%). The thick cloud overnight, which was thinning just after sunrise, meant that it was the warmest morning at 08.00 this month with a temperature of 8.2C.

Warmest day of the year
The 7.66 hours of strong sunshine yesterday boosted the temperature to a maximum of 16.5C, the warmest day of the year and warmest day since early September, brought on light southerly winds. The UV value was also the highest at 4.6. The slack pressure system continues today but with little sunshine, unlike yesterday, due to high level cloud. It was a mild night with a minimum of 6.5C.

Fog, frost and sun greet the dawn
Yesterday brought 5.05 hours of strong sunshine and a maximum of 15.3C, 1C above the average for April. Overnight the temperature steadily fell away and dropped below freezing for an hour before dawn when the fog banks formed. These small banks of fog have been moving around and gradually thinning as the sun grows in strength this morning.

Dismal day yesterday but weak sunshine this morning
This morning it was a relief to see the weak sunshine trying to break through the thin high cloud after the thick cloud and hours of light rain yesterday. There was a little brightness in late afternoon as the cloud thinned. The rainfall total for the past twenty-four hours was 4.3mm with a maximum temperature of 11.2C and very still conditions, the highest wind gust was 7mph. At dawn there was mist in the valleys that is now slowly evaporating.

Wettest twenty-four hours this month
Sunday brought 3.45 hours of strong sunshine but the easterly breeze kept the maximum temperature down to 11.6C, almost 3C below the April average. Heavy rain was recorded an hour before and after midnight, which combined with light rain early morning brought the daily total to 9.6mm, the wettest day this month. The thick cloud cover, light rain and still wind conditions meant a mild start to the day with a temperature of 7.7C at 08.00.
