  • No overnight air frost but still cold by day

Yesterday was the seventh successive below average maximum with a high of 10.9C (mean is 14.3C). This was tempered by strong winds gusting to 23mph. The cloud cover overnight meant that there was no air frost but it was chilly with a minimum of 2.6C. There were 6.08 hours of strong sunshine yesterday with variable cloud cover. This cleared in the early evening, which let the temperature drop from its maximum of 10.7C to a low of -3.2C just before 5am. This was the coldest April night since 2013 ((-5.6C) but still above the record low set on 5th April 1990 with a minimum of -6.9C. A very brief shower of rain amounted to just 0.2mm.
