Yesterday was devoid of any strong sunshine due to continuous cloud cover. There were intervals of heavy showers, day and night, interspersed with very light rain. The total precipitation was 16.6mm. The light easterly breezes, maximum gust was 14mph, depressed temperature by day with a maximum of 16.7C, almost 10C below the maximum two days previous. It was a mild night due to the cloud cover with a minimum of 13.6C, which is little different from the previous day’s maximum.

Rain and cloud replaces sunshine
After a bright start and weak sunshine yesterday morning the rain showers in the afternoon and more continuous rain overnight indicates a change in the weather pattern. The rainfall total for the past twenty-four hours was 8mm, the wettest day this month. It was a very humid night with a temperature of 14.4C at 08.00 and 98% humidity.

Not a record at 25.3C
The mini heatwave reached its peak yesterday with a maximum of 25.3C just after 3pm. The record for May was set in 2010 with a peak of 27.8C on the 24th. There were 8.8 hours of strong sunshine.
The night has been very mild with a minimum of 13.9C due to the thick cloud cover that produced a few drops of rain just after 08.00. It is the warmest morning since last August with a temperature of 15.2C at 08.00. -
Warmth continues
The warm continental air boosted the maximum yesterday to 22.4C. Overnight cloud cover kept the temperature up with a minimum of 11.8C and a temperature at 08.00 of 15.1C, the warmest morning since last August. The UV level is still in the High category.

Even hotter with 22.7C maximum
Yesterday was the hottest day since September with a maximum of 22.7C (72.9F) at 15.15. Most of the day the sun was partially obscured by high level cloud so the strong sunshine (100 watts/sq. meter) total was only 1.74 hours whereas the Global Sunshine (direct and reflected component from the rest of the sky) totalled 12.3 hours. The UV level again fell into the High category.
The temperature at 08.00 was 12.8C, the warmest for five months, with hazy sunshine.
