  • Another cool night

    Sunday brought a warmer day and lighter winds resulting in a maximum of 17.2C, just above average, with 6.13 hours of strong sunshine. Clear skies overnight meant another cool night, but not so cold as the previous, with a minimum of 5.4C. The day dawned with strong sunshine and minor cloud amounts producing a temperature of 9.8C at 08.00.

  • Highest solar energy for 10 months

    With 10.63 hours of strong sunshine yesterday it is not surprising that I recorded the highest solar energy in twenty-four hours since 9th July 2015. The UV level was maintained at a High level. With a clear sky last night the temperature fell continuously to record a cold night with a minimum of 2.0C at 05.22. After early low cloud cleared, strong sunshine broke through so the temperature recovered to 9.1C at 08.00

  • Northerly winds depress temperatures

    The strong northerly winds yesterday, gusting to 25mph, kept the temperature down to a maximum of 17.1C. There were 4.02 hours of strong sunshine that reduced late afternoon as the cold front arrived from the north. Cloud cover overnight and a continuing slight breeze, meant that we just avoided a ground frost with a minimum of 6.2C. This morning the sun is beginning to break through the cloud cover with a temperature of 7.4C at 08.00

  • Sunshine returns but so does strong north-easterly today

    Yesterday brought 2.65 hours of strong sunshine, but 11.8 hours of global sunshine, that pushed the thermometer to a maximum of 21.8C in late afternoon. This morning the north-easterly wind has been increasing with gusts to 23mph and the ambient temperature of 10.7C at 08.00 has a wind chill factor that makes it feel like 8C. The UV level returned to high yesterday.

  • A brief ray of sunshine yesterday after the persistent rain

    Yesterday the cloud eventually lifted and cleared with brief brightness and a ray of strong sunshine (0.09hours) late afternoon. Rainfall total for May, after 4.1mm yesterday now totals 31.6mm (average 60.5mm). This morning is cloudy with a stiff breeze and cool at 11.8C (minimum overnight) as the wind has briefly backed into a northerly direction.
