Although no sunshine was recorded yesterday due to the persistent thick cloud, it was a much warmer day with a maximum of 18.8C and light winds, maximum gust of just 12mph. It was a much warmer night than of late, the warmest for almost a month, due to the cloud cover and mist with visibility down to 1500 metres with a minimum of 12.2C.

All change – at last
After another day, which was predominantly cloudy with the persistent fresh winds from a north-easterly direction, the weather changed overnight. The peak temperature yesterday of 14.3C (average is 18C) was reached just before 6.30pm after the sun broke through late afternoon. The minimum occurred around midnight after which the thermometer slowly rose to reach 12.3C at 08.00, the warmest morning for a week. The morning broke with fog from low cloud with visibility down to 500 metres. Currently the wind has fallen out, the air is moist and feels much warmer as the temperature slowly rises due to the fog slowly lifting.

Still that nagging north wind
Again yesterday the thick cloud persisted for much of the day but during the late afternoon there were breaks that gave 1.2 hours of strong sunshine. The maximum of 15.4C was 3C below the average of 18C for early June but better than the 12C maximum of wednesday. Overnight the cloud has returned, the strong northerly wind, gusting to 25 mph, continues that the wind chill makes it feel more like 7C at 08.00 after a minimum of 8.4C.

Not summer, more like March
The beginning of the meteorological summer yesterday, 1st June, was definitely not summer-like. With thick, low cloud all day, brought in by a brisk north-easterly wind, a maximum of 12.2C was only reached at 17.00 and frequent moisture in the wind, it was miserable. The UV peak of 3.1 was in the ‘Moderate’ category and usually recorded in March.
This morning the cloud is higher but between 04.30 and 05.30 the weather front passed over when the winds gusted again to 23mph. At 08.00 the temperature was only 8.8C but with wind chill it felt like 7C. -
A sunny morning yesterday before the rain arrived
Yesterday brought us six hours of hazy sunshine before the wide weather front arrived from the east with rain starting to fall just after 13.30. The rainfall since then has been intermittent and light amounting to 5.4mm.
This morning it is cool with a temperature of 11.0C at 08.00 with low cloud and drizzle.
