  • Cold, wet and windy yesterday – not summer!

    Yesterday was a dismal day. It started with bright sunshine but cloud very soon arrived from the west with rain beginning to fall just after 9.30 and kept falling, almost continuously, for ten hours, totalling 6.9mm. The maximum temperature late afternoon, when it briefly rose, was 14.6C, which is 5C below the average for June.
    The weather front started to clear a couple of hours after dawn this morning with strong sunshine breaking through the broken cloud that pushed the thermometer to 13.9C at 08.00.

  • Much sunshine yesterday morning but rain returned pm

    It was a sunny morning yesterday with 3.31 hours of strong sunshine but the cloud built up around midday and rain arrived just after 14.30 that totalled 2.9mm. The minimum overnight was 9.8C, average for late June. The sunshine at daybreak today (05.22) was glorious but only lasted just over an hour before thick cloud again moved in from the west with rainfall predicted within the next hour.

  • Coldest night for a month

    Yesterday gave us much sunshine with light winds, pushing the thermometer to a maximum of 20.2C, average for late June. The barometric pressure started to drop after midnight heralding the next low pressure system. The clear sky over night allowed warmth from the ground to dissipate into the atmosphere with the thermometer showing a continuous fall, reaching a minimum of 6.9C at 05.22, the coldest night since 26th May.

  • Warmest night since August 2015

    A sunny morning yesterday with 1.69 hours of strong sunshine that gave way to more cloud in the afternoon with light rain/drizzle arriving just before 18.00, with further showers early this morning, totalling 2.3mm. With the wind backing temporarily into the south late yesterday evening, followed by a cloudy night, gave us the warmest night since 22nd August 2015 with a minimum of 14.6mm.

  • Storms to north, south, east and west but not here!

    Sunshine yesterday was interrupted frequently by light showers. Thunder was heard in the distance to the east at 14.55 and just before 16.00 a very heavy shower arrived, with briefly, a rate of rainfall at 41mm/hour. The rainfall yesterday amounted to 4.7mm, which brings the total for June to 39.0mm or 71% of the mean. The UV level was again in the very high category with 1.50 hours of strong sunshine.
