  • Very cool night after sunny, dry day

The northwesterly wind meant clearer and cooler air yesterday so it is not surprising that the maximum was below the average (22.3C) for early July at 20.8C. With clear skies overnight and the air from the northwest, the thermometer dropped consistently to a minimum of 5.9C at 05.35, the coldest night since 26th May. This morning broke with hazy sunshine and the temperature recovering to 12.3C at 08.00. The ridge of high-pressure indicates another dry day today with diminishing sunshine as cloud builds from the west.

  • Cooler by day and warmer by night

With much less strong sunshine yesterday (2.53 hours) it is not surprising that the maximum temperature was almost 4C down on the mean for July at 18.7C. The cloud cover overnight meant a much warmer night than the previous with a minimum of 13.1C and a very light shower around dawn amounting to 0.2mm. This morning the wind veered into the northwest, which will give a clearer, cooler air with the sun beginning to break through just before 08.00.

  • Coldest night for six weeks after much sunshine

Yesterday brought a day with 7.28 hours of strong sunshine that with light winds, maximum gust of 14mph, gave a very pleasant day. The maximum temperature just after 5pm was 21.9C, just below the average for early July and UV was into the very high category again. With a clear sky overnight, allowing warmth from the ground to radiate into space, the thermometer dropped to a minimum of 6.2C at 05.11 but sunshine after dawn pushed the temperature to 15.6C at 08.00.

  • Sunniest day for a month

Yesterday was much more like a summer’s day with 8.11 hours of strong sunshine, no rain although breezy with winds from a westerly direction with a maximum gust of 24mph. Winds from this direction do not bring very warm air so it is not surprising that the maximum was only 18.9C that is 3.8C below the early July average. The thermometer dropped overnight to a minimum of 9.1C, which is a couple of degrees below average for early July.

  • Highest UV in June

Yesterday was predominantly dry with showers breaking out in the evening and overnight amounting to 1.5mm. There were 0.4 hours of strong sunshine when the UV level soared to its highest again this month into the very high category, as on the 20th June. The total rainfall for June stands at 52.6mm, which is 95% of the long-term average.
This morning the sun has broken through the thick could from time to time boosting the temperature to 14.6C at 08.00
