  • Bright start yesterday but dreary day thereafter

Yesterday started on a bright note but increasing cloud from mid-morning brought light rain and drizzle amounting to a minimal total of 0.4mm. The UV level, consequently, was the lowest for several weeks at moderate and solar energy the lowest for nearly three weeks. This morning broke with a very low cloud base producing drizzle, lifting after 07.40.

  • Ridge of high pressure intensifies and brings more sunshine

With the barometric pressure at its highest for over two months, it is not surprising that the temperature yesterday recovered a little and we enjoyed much more sunshine, 6.62 hours of strong sunshine. The maximum temperature reached was 20.1C, 2C below the mean due to the cooler westerly airflow, the wind having backed from the northwest. Overnight cloud moved in so the lowest temperature was just before 3am at 9.7C but recovered to 13.9C at 08.00.

  • Coolest day for over a month

The ridge of high pressure, that has been building for two days, continues to give an air flow from a cooler northwesterly direction. The maximum temperature yesterday was 17.0C, over 5C below the July mean. The frequent showers meant that the temperature oscillated 2C to 5C during the daylight hours. The rainfall total was moderate at 2.2mm. Overnight the thermometer dropped to a minimum of 8.4C, which is more than 3C below the July mean. Sunshine from dawn meant that the temperature recovered well to 13.7C at 08.00.

  • Wettest day for a fortnight

With 4.0mm of rainfall yesterday morning it was the wettest day since 29th June. The sun broke through in the afternoon lifting the temperature to a maximum of 18.7C, which is 4C below the average but the air was coming from a westerly direction which is much cooler. The night just passed was also cool with a minimum of 9.6C but the cloud bank cleared shortly after dawn and the sun broke through with a clear blue sky and a temperature of 13.7C at 08.00.

  • A breezy day but no rain

We have now had three consecutive days that have been very breezy with maximum gusts to 24mph. However, yesterday was dry with 2.21 hours of strong sunshine that lifted the maximum to 20.7C but overnight was much cooler than of late with a minimum of 10.6C. The early sunshine has disappeared this morning as thick cloud has rolled in obscuring the sun.
