  • High pressure brings drier easterly breeze

    The anticyclone, with a peak of 1029.9mb,  just to the east of us has meant that the wind has veered into the east bringing a drier, cooler air with more cloud. Yesterday the sunshine total was much lower, 4.36 hours, due to transient cloud although the maximum temperature of 17.5C was 3C above the average for October. The night just passed was less cool than previously with a minimum of 9.9C.

  • Sunniest day since late August

    It was a glorious day yesterday with wall to wall blue sky and 10.06 hours of strong sunshine, the sunniest day since 30th August. The thermometer rose to a maximum of 17.C, which is 2C above the mean for October. The past night was far less cold with a temperature of 9.7C at 08.00

    This morning dawned with fog, the visibility down to 200m.

  • Brrrr! Coldest night for five months

    At 05.34 this morning the thermometer dropped to its lowest reading since 5th May at 1.9C giving a grass frost. This followed a glorious day yesterday with 8.71 hours of strong sunshine. The many hours of rainfall on Saturday totalled 12.0mm.

  • Warm southwesterly winds boost temperature

    With the wind veering into the southwest yesterday we enjoyed 3.27 hours of strong sunshine and the UV level was the highest for two weeks. As a consequence the thermometer rose to a maximum of 20.8C, which is 2C above the average.

    A cold front this morning has brought bands of rain and drizzle sweeping from the west. Rainfall to 08.00 was 1.0mm.

  • Sunless, damp and gloomy day

    Yesterday was a gloomy day of low cloud with occasional bands of drizzle crossing the area. The precipitation total was minimal with 0.2mm but the maximum temperature returned to average after the previous cool day. It was the fifth day this month with no strong sunshine.

    Today the barometer rose to its highest this month with a maximum of 1025.0mb just after midnight, thin cloud and a watery sun.
