With a total of 8.1mm, yesterday was the wettest day of the month and the wettest day since 14th January. The total rainfall for February is now 15.9mm. With the monthly long-term average standing at 65.6mm it has been a relatively dry month so far.
The air temperature dropped below freezing around 5am this morning giving a sharp frost with a minimum of -1.2C. However, with clear skies forecast for the rest of the day we should enjoy many hours of sunshine unlike eight days this month when no sunshine was recorded.

Yesterday was the warmest day of the month with a maximum of 8.2C, which was followed by the warmest night with a minimum of 3.1C. The last twenty-four hours also produced the wettest day this February with a total of 5.7mm.

First rain for ten days
As the anticyclone that had been sitting on or near the UK for eleven days started to move away to the east an approaching depression brought a rise in temperature, the first rain for ten days with 0.6mm and stronger winds gusting to over 20mph. The previous day saw the calmest day since December with the maximum gust of just 9mph with a maximum temperature of only 4.1C.

No UV and lowest solar energy for a month, that was the 11th
Yesterday the 11th was the gloomiest day for over a month. With thick cloud trapped under the anticyclone no ultra violet radiation was recorded and solar energy was the lowest since 5th January.
Not surprisingly with continuous cloud cover, the difference between maximum and minimum temperatures was just over 2C in the twenty-four hour period (5.1C to 2.6C). The humidity at 0800 was low at 84%, again the lowest for a month. -
Clear skies, sharp frost then thick fog at sunrise
After another day with much sunshine meant clear skies for the first part of the night allowing the air temperature to drop to -2.4C. This was followed by thick fog developing in the still air.
