Temperatures and sunshine fall away
With winds coming from a north-westerly direction it is not surprising that maximum temperatures have dropped away recently, yesterday a peak of 15.7C was reached, 1C below the mean. The increased cloud cover restricted bright sunshine to 0.6 hours yesterday.

Two consecutive days above average temperature
Although yesterday was memorable for being overcast and damp in the morning (0.6mm) the temperature recovered and reached a maximum of 18.4C, which is 2C above the mean. After a warm night the soil temperature at a death of 5cm is the highest it has been since mid-October at 13.9C.

What a difference a day makes
In contrast to the previous day, yesterday was dry and brought 12.86 hours of bright sunshine with lighter winds – maximum gust of 17mph. As a result the maximum temperature was 17.9C, only the sixth day this month reaching above the mean for May. With cloud cover increasing overnight there was no found frost, a minimum of 5.6C was the lowest reached.

Another night with ground frost
The daytime maximum temperature yesterday recovered closer to the mean at 15.3C but dropped away overnight to a minimum of 2.3C at 0344 hours giving a ground frost. There was no measurable rainfall although a very slight shower in the afternoon gave a trace of rain. The total hours of bright sunshine was a little higher than the previous day at 5.08 hours and UV levels returned to the ‘High’ category.
